“I’m thirty-six, a husband, father of two, and business owner, and I’m starting this journey because time’s speeding up and health scare stories around me are a wake-up call. I’ve been drinking heavily, and vaping at every given opportunity, but next Monday, I’m kicking off a twelve-month contract to stop biting my nails, drinking alcohol, and vaping, while exercising three times a week and meditating daily. I tried apps before, quit vaping for over sixty days, but my mental health dipped, and a social slip with a friend vaping pulled me back in. Drinking’s two or three times a week, but I can’t control it—I finish a whole bottle of wine in one go. Last Saturday morning, I woke up hungover, missing quality time with my kids, letting my six-year-old play too many video games while I recover, instead of taking him to play football or the park. Seeing my wife work so hard, holding things together, makes me feel disconnected from myself, my family, and the person I want to be. If my clients knew, they’d be shocked, but I’m doing this anonymously to protect my reputation and be the role model they deserve. The purpose of this blog is to share my journey openly, even anonymously, to inspire others who might be struggling too, and to hold myself accountable as I work toward being my best self.”
